The gemstone ametrine, a new addition to the Silk Collection in this basket weave textured ring, is a bi-color transparent quartz. A mixture of purple amethyst and golden yellow citrine, the stone is also sometimes called trystine or bolivianite.
A relatively rare stone, natural ametrine is primarily found in one location in Bolivia, in the Anahi Mine. According to the International Colored Gemstone Association, "this mine first became famous in the seventeenth century when a Spanish conquistador received it as a dowry on marrying a princess named Anahi from the Ayoreos tribe." Ametrine then made its way to Europe incorporated in gifts from the conquistador to the Spanish queen.
