Earlier this week, we profiled a gemstone new to Ariva, the opaque green bowenite. Another gem making its Silk Collection debut this spring is the enchanting apatite, a stone with a fascinating story.
While gem quality apatite is very rare, the mineral is abundant. A member of the phosphate family, apatite is the most common phosphate in the world, and is made of the same substance as human bones and teeth!
The name 'apatite' is derived from the Greek word for cheat, and the stone is named for its uncanny likeness to a variety of more valuable stones, like the Paraiba tourmaline.
While the stone is not well known to the public, it is valued by gemstone lovers for its variety of lovely hues.
Featured along with moonstone and bowenite in Silk basket weave open top rings, apatite's bright yet cool hue is the perfect complement to spring and summer wardrobes.
